New News: Honorable Mention BETSY’S RAINBOW BALLOONS

Holy Jumping Jugglers!

Remember when I told you I entered a children’s picture book contest, Spring Fling Kidlit Contest 2021? I had to write a story from scratch with only 150 words – no more!

I posted my story, BETSY’S RAINBOW BALLOONS, on Bookity Blog several weeks ago and forgot about it. Tonight one of my CPs (Critique Partners) sent me a message to tell me that I won an honorable mention for my story.

Holy Giggling Grasshoppers!

I can’t believe it. Just like my first graders always jumped for joy when they accomplished something fun, I am jumping for joy now. Yippee!!!

Holy Bopping Balloons!

Congratulations to the WINNERS and the other HONORABLE MENTIONS. Heck, congratulations to all who entered.

AND…. Drum Roll….THE WINNERS ARE!

A big RAINBOW thank you to the contest organizers, Kaitlyn Sanchez and Ciara O’Neal. What a lot of work!

Brain Injury Resources~Book Review “Now One Foot, Now the Other”

Brain Injury Resources …

“Now One Foot, Now the Other”

by author/illustrator Tomie dePaola

Now One Foot, Now the Other

Now One Foot, Now the Other by author/illustrator, Tomie dePaola

Now One Foot, Now the Other by Tomie dePaola is one of my favorite books. I love all of Tomie’s books, but this one touches the heart.

My husband, David, had a traumatic brain injury in 2005 and, like Bob, had to relearn to walk. I guess I was my husband’s “Bobby” as I helped David to learn to walk again.

This book is so important in helping a child understand what happened to grandpa (grandma, anyone) when they suffer a debilitating brain injury. It is even an eye-opener for adults.

I highly recommend this book to any audience.

P.S. I once had drinks with Tomie dePaola and my friend, Paula Danziger, (author of the Amber Brown books) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City while attending an SCBWI conference. (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators)

Clover Kitty Goes to Kittygarten

written by Laura Purdie Salas
illustrated by Hiroe Nakata

My rating 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book. Flashing lights, ringing bells, and playful shouts are common occurrences in most elementary classrooms, but they can often be a challenge for children with issues of sensory overload. Find out how Clover Kitty solves her problem and how her new friend, Oliver, helps.

“While We Can’t Hug”

My rating 5 of 5 stars

While We Can’t Hug” is a sweet book that children will want to hear again and again. Parents, will enjoy reading it over and over, too. I know I would. We all like to hug our family and friends, but what can you do when you can’t hug? Ask Tortoise and Hedgehog.

“Little Pea” is a simple story with a powerful punch. Kids will love the twist and will want to hear this book again and again.
