TBI – Survivors, Caregivers, Family, and Friends

I am so honored to be featured on Sue Bavey’s website, Sue’s Musings – Indie Spotlight. Sue features authors to take a glimpse into their journey to publication. Each story is different and intriguing. I hope you will find my story interesting and that you will take the time to read my book, PRISONERS WITHOUT BARS: A CAREGIVER’S TALE. I’ve been told it will make you laugh, cry, and G-A-S-P! Please let me know if you did any?

Donna, I DID laugh 😂, cry 😢 & gasp 😱. I’m a TBI Survivor, so to read about a caregiver’s experience helped put into prospective what my Mom went thru. I had graduated as a nurse in June 2010. In February 2011, I had attended a meeting the long term mental health facility I worked at. After it was over, freezing rain struck, & I was t-boned at highway speeds. Medics found me clinically dead with a severe brain injury & 3 fractured vertebrae. I was in a coma for 6 weeks. I developed pneumonia & ended up on life support. The docs didn’t think, so my youngest daughter’s father was was he could take me off life support, but he wouldn’t as our daughter was only 3. He actually threw me out a little over 2 years after the accident, as he said he wasn’t happy. Most relationships won’t survive a brain injury; that your marriage survived speaks volumes about you & David. Kudos!!!

Jenn Crosby, thank you so much for reading my book. I am so glad that it made you laugh, cry, and G-A-S-P! But thanks even more for sharing some of your story with me. I’m sorry you had a brain injury and even sorrier for the response of your husband. You’re right – the survival rate of marriages after brain injury is very high. Sad, but true. I’d love for you to do a Survivors SPEAK OUT Interview on my site. Look in the right sidebar for Survivors SPEAK OUT Interview template. All directions are there.
      All best,
