A Brain Implant to Control Epilepsy
Epileptic seizures can be caused by a TBI. The FDA recently approved a Michigan company’s experimental brain implant that has the potential to prevent seizures. Microprocessors were surgically inserted into the craniums of adult patients. The device monitors brain activity and stops seizures. Once the brain activity that leads to a seizure is localized and identified, it can be interfered with by programming the implant to emit specific electrical signals.
